We know that a truth exists. We will be in denial of its existence. We rather not worry about it at all. We only acknowledge it, when we face it. Then eventually, you do the same act of being in denial of its existence. I hope after reading this piece you try and do things differently.
Recently I encountered an incident which pestered my mind all day and made me wonder, "if humanity exists anymore!”. It was a mid afternoon and it was scorching hot out there. My cousin and I went to a nearby town to buy a few things. We were travelling by bike. We bought our things and were returning home on NH -7 which happens to be the BLR_HYD highway.
From a distance we could spot a mob on the highway and our thoughts suddenly knew it must be an accident as we neared the spot and stopped. A man and his wife were lying on the road injured. They were probably returning from a party. The man was drunk, he had hit a milestone and they were probably dragged on the road for about 100 meters along with the bike.
They were badly hurt and was losing blood. Suddenly my cousin asked the people gathered there, if they have called for the ambulance and the people responded that they haven't. He immediately called the ambulance and gave the details. All the people over there were not just mute spectators, they were doing their duty by surrounding the wounded and talking how lucky that they still haven't died and were literally letting them die by not doing anything to save them.
There were two guys who were explaining the whole incident to whoever stopped by. After we made two to three calls there came an ambulance which was vacant yet didn't take the patients as they were not informed before. Then people started to stop the vehicles passing by for help but in vain.
Everyone just took a quick view at what had happened and left. Almost after 20- 25 minutes there came two ambulances at once, out of which one didn't even contain basic “first aid materials, and had to borrow” from the other ambulance. Only one of the ambulances’ crew brought the stretcher down to take the man in as his leg was broken and no one else tried helping the victim - neither the people nor the ambulance staff. Then my cousin went and helped him and we sent them. The crowd dispersed and we left.
After reaching home, I couldn’t get over the incident, my mind was not keeping quiet. It was filled with number of questions 'what if we hadn't crossed that path? Would they be still be lying there while the people were enjoying the discussion of how it happened? “What does it take to have some humanity?” After all we are all humans, 'Would the first ambulance driver be at any loss if he took the injured to the hospital??? After all it is “his prime duty”. And the people who were not stopping their vehicles for help. What would they lose by helping? Would we do the same if it was our family? It could be any of us!! And the man who was drunk, what were you thinking? you have a family!! It just takes a second to lose your life but the pain caused by it to the family will last a lifetime!!!
Humanity has gone on a hiatus, Jo

ReplyDeleteIt is the reflection of the politics, the disciplined & responsible the politicians are, the disciplined and responsibile the citizens will be. The driver is irresponsible and the spectators too. Only an honest and sincere government can bring change.
ReplyDeleteAnd I still wonder how are these people brought up in their families and schools. This also proves that education is only limited to marks.
It is awesome, accurate nd exact description of today's situation in ur word,,,we r lagging behind in moralities,,,,nd it comes only when we r emotionally nd mentally strong,,,we should focus on making such type of society or people who used to really heart when they saw somebody in difficulties,,,nd it's possible only when,,,we give them moral education from our home,,, really appreciable blog yu
